Description Native to – The Mediterranean region, the Himalayas, and Southern China. Botanical Information – Punica is a small, fruiting tree of ancient origin. Carl Linaeous first described pomegranate in published literature in 1753. The name comes from malam punicum(apple of Carthage). Pomegranate is derived from the latin words pomum (apple) and granate from granatum (meaning many seeds). It has glossy, bright green leaves carried on reddish stalks along with a large, round pome fruit. The pomegranate has flowers which range in color from white to yellow to orange-red.

Native to – Europe and Western Asia
Botanical Information– First described by Carl Linnaeus in the mid 18th century. As a tree grown in the open ground, it is a round crowned tree that will reach 30-60 feet high but is also found quite often as a low  wide shrub. Leaves are 3-5 lobed smooth along the edges and of a light green coloration when they first emerge in the spring, and subsequently turning a darker green as the leaves mature.

Botanical Information– A variable growth habit as a species; it can be a tree up to 60 feet or more shrub like. Young juvenile leaves are opposite or whorled, linear, pointed and spreading with a white band above. Older mature foliage is scale or thread-like and usually a lustrous green. Sexes are on separate plants (dioecious) and most cultivars have been selected
