International Bonsai Symposium

Postby drmom99 » Sep 13, 2010 8:29 pm

Well, everyone, I just got back from Bill Valavanis' International Bonsai Symposium, and was it terrific! Ryan Neil was outstanding in his first public demonstration on the east coast. Undoubtedly he will significantly raise the level of bonsai here in the US due to his tremendous knowledge base and incredible artistic talent. Happily, we all have the opportunity to see Ryan in action again at next years ABS/BCI learning seminar event in Louisville, Ky. I'm signing up now!!

Thanks for the information Karen, Ryan Neil has gotten the same kind of recognition from those in Knoxville, TN and surrounding areas on his expertise and knowledge in a workship this past spring. It's very nice to see a new generation of artists comming along and making an impact. I'm sure that space in Ryans worksohp in the upcomming Louisville, KY learning seminar will be filled quite quickly so if there is anyone that is intrested they should sign up ASAP. I see that his worship in louisville is with Rocky Mountain Juniper, one of our spactucular Native trees for bonsai. It should be an exciting event for sure.

Ryan's workshop is 1/2 full already. Those taking the workshop will end up with both a great bonsai and some new techniques of styling. Those wanting to take the workshop should act quickly.

He was very knowledgeable and informative and gave very interesting and lively presentations at Bill's meeting, but the trees were too danged big for me. I'm sure those of you who take his workshop in KY will have a great time.

This was, incidentally, the last of Bill's annual September get-togethers, though he has something in the works for two years from now to celebrate his 50 years in bonsai.

He'll be in KY, too -- doing shohin; MY kind of trees.

Yes Bill will be in Ky for the 2011 symposium and he is doing shohin. If you are interested in taking one of his workshops, you might want to sign up since they are also filling up. Unfortunately, all of the workshops have limited spots available. Just couldn't convince the masters to take more than 10 registrants for their workshops

By the way, Bill is supplying all his own trees for his workshops.
