new club in Southern Ohio!!

Postby mboatman » May 13, 2011 9:43 pm

Hi. I am looking to fill a void in southern ohio on bonsai. I am hoping to help form a club out my way or better yet centering in Chillicothe ohio. WHERE ARE YOU WHEN I NEED YOU, ED ROWE? It seems that ed attempted this a few years ago. Anyone out that direction? Thanks:-)

Greetings,

Columbus, Cincinnati and Newark all have bonsai activity. You might be able to contact them and find out if they have any members either 1- who already drive in for their meeting who are near to you, or 2 - who might be interested in being a resource or guest speaker for your new club. There is also a Ohio Regional show at the Dawes Arboretum on June 11 & 12, that might be a place to hand out fliers to try for some recruiting.

I was not able to make it to all ohio show at dawes this year but last year i went there and its a great show thats going to get better! I love the location! Columbus also has a nice show as did cincy in fall. I went to all of them last year but louisville stretched me thin this year but was worth it.
I am backing off a bit on the topic since i am relocating out into the countryside so i am too busy at the moment. I may give it a go next year. I may very well go that route on passing out flyers at shows, ect. Its going to take sacrifice and time to jumpstart a club i am sure.

Yeah, it does take effort to start a club up, and more importantly to keep its momentum growing. My town is a great example - there have been numerous attempts to start a bonsai group over the last few decades, and but they've all eventually faded away. There is another new attempt right now, but they're having a hard time keeping interest up. The goal to longevity is finding a core group of interested folks, who are interested in both bonsai and running a group. Its often easy to find folks interested in bonsai, but you also need folks willing/able to do the work of keeping a group going. Its very hard for one person to keep momentum going on their own. Saying that, I wish you all the luck and if there's advice I can give, feel free to ask.
