crown of thorn tree.

Trees from the tropics which do not tolerate frost, ficus, schefflera, acacia, buttonwood...

crown of thorn tree.

Hey, i see very little info on crown of thorn trees as bonsai. It produces tiny red flowers constantly...summer and winter and all between....so far. It was from a cutting from a bonsai society of greater cincinnati demo last fall. It rooted fairly quickly. I now have one main specimen with 3 healthy cuttings moving along just fine. Whats your take on this tree? I think it may turn out nice in due time. Has anyone else tried this species? Thanks

Mitch,
I have worked with this material. Advantages, easy to grow, tolerates indoor conditions, flowers. Disadvantages, coarse branching and not particularly very tree-like character.
I think that it can form a worthwhile bonsai given some time.

Hi Mitch,

I agree with Jerry on this, but have always had the thought in my mind that it might make a pretty bonsai. Go for it !
