Glyptostrobus pensilis, "Chinese Swamp Cypress", Buying?

Postby BillsBayou » Feb 07, 2011 12:08 pm

I'm looking to purchase Glyptostrobus pensilis, "Chinese Swamp Cypress". Anyone know a source? I'm looking for seedlings or seeds.

I already work on Bald Cypress and I'm looking to expand to it's cousin in it's subfamily, Taxodioideae.

We always seem to want something other than what we can easily get. I pull Bald Cypress out of the swamps every year for free; big ones. But I saw one photo of a penjing Chinese Swamp Cypress, and that's what I want. :D

Bill,

Good luck finding this llittle beauty!! I've looked at all of my sournces and come up with ziltch. Can't find seeds, or plants anywhere. I did notice in my wanderings looking for it that it is classified as an "endangered species" which may be why it's generally not avaliable. I know that there is a plant distribution arm of the National Arboretum that does work with the public and commercial growers to distribute cuttings, seeds and maybe some small plants that they have in their evaluation collections. That might be a place to investigate.
