Them elms!

Postby mboatman » Aug 01, 2011 10:54 pm

I have had elms every year since bonsai" conception" and i just want to say "man they just dont let up on their growth push!" Not that i am complaining though. I have 2 great siberian elms, 2 collected rock elms, a root over rock slippery elm= meh, and several various native elms in development. Elms are a good way to stay busy with an otherwise slowed down bonsai garden. Heat wave seemed to have slowed the growth on most species except of course elms! What are your favorite elm species?
Mines is rock elm since i am a native species freak but oddly enough siberian elms have got me by the hook.
As soon as i get behind a real computer, i should remember to post a pic of" elm row" at my benches.

I do like a good chinese elm, that I can treat as a tropical and have inside under my lights in the winter time. Other than that, I am also a fan of the Jacqueline Hillier elm, as its slightly curled foliage gives it a nice, full look. My elm list includes Chinese, Siberian, Hokkaido, Seiju, Jacqueline Hillier and Carolina.
