Frost Alerts for East Coast?

Postby mfantus » Oct 07, 2011 8:27 am

hi

Can anyone tell me how to find out when a frost warning is taking place so I know to bring my tropicals in from the outside? Any reliable sources/email alerts?

I live in Washington DC and the sun has been lovely with mild day temperatures and the tropicals seem to be very happy but that wont be the case if a frost occurs and I'm not ready to move them.

Cheers,

Michael

I have already brought in all my tropical trees. When the temperatures get down around 50, I decide to bring the tropical trees indoors. Why take a chance?

Yeah I've brought mine in already as well. When it starts getting down below 50 degrees at night I bring them in just to be safe.

The best bet is to watch your local weather forcast, or log on to your local news channel's website and look at their weather report. Most will give you multiple-day predictions, so you can look ahead and see what the lows are predicted to be. Or, you can go to www.weather.com for a look ahead. Your goal is to bring your tropicals in when nights consistently stay below 50; if you're getting close to having frosts, then it's typically past when the trees should have been brought in. I don't know of any service that would email you frost warnings, though there are lots of apps that will send weather info to a smartphone.
