Showcasing species native to North America

Ash juniper

I was fortunate enough to find this Ashi in Pflugerville TX for a very resonable price. It's pretty leggy but otherwise healthy. It has been in captivity since before 9/11 so I think its adapted. Im hoping to end up with something like a semicascade with the majority of the foilage over the live vein and with a decending cloud structure falling to the rim of the pot. I'm open to any and all suggestions. The broken chopstick is the temporary front.

Dwight,

Awhhhh you lucky dog you!!! That's such lovely native juniper! wow. It would make a lovely informal upright tree too in my eye (the last pic in the series). Keep us posted on the progression. I'd love to follow your work on that lovely tree.

The tree and I are going to a workshop in Albuquerque in Oct. The instructor is a student of Roy Nagatoshi so she should know junipers. I'll post after pics.

Dwight,
I agree with Randy the Ash would make a very nice informal upright. It does look a little "leggy" now but with a lot of careful trimming, you can reduce that. Do continue to take pictures as you work on the tree and keep us posted on the progress. You should end up with a very nice tree.

Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted.

BTW , anyone know the netural color of these things. When we were in Austin the wild trees seemed to be the same light green but those poor guys have just been 12 rounds with Ma Nature.

Went to the workshop in Albuquerque last weekend. Had a chance to really examine the tree and it's growing and backbudding like a weed. Cindy read gave the workshop and we did a little triming and some wiring. Much smaller tree now. I'll post pics as I continue to wire the thing ( lots of branches ) but it looks a bunch better already.
