Dangers if any of using copper vs aluminum wire to secure a tree in a pot when repotting.

I've never heard of any dangers for either type of wire. When I took a class at Nature's Way they said they prefer using copper because the aluminum tends to stretch some when you tighten the wire by twisting and pulling on it. Of course copper is stronger than the aluminum as well so you can get away with using a thinner wire. I've used both and can't say I have a preference.

It's mainly a strength/stretching situation like jpaulhamus said. Aluminum stretches and breaks easier when you're twisting it, and isn't as strong so large gauges are needed. If you're working small, then I would say it's not a big issue, but if you're working big then I would recommend copper.

I actually prefer to use aluminum so I can use a thicker wire to prevent having it dig in to roots. If it stretches a bit, I've never been able to tell, but I suppose it's good too, after the tree has had time to establish itself.

I have used copper too, and had no bad effects.
