Also, Planara aquatica Water elm. e7 e8.

Mine's an odd little tree taken from the same Tallahassee swamp. Never wired.

Very cool!!!! I'll add it to the list today! Thanks, and great pic's too!

Keep those natives coming! Water elm should be used more widely. It's difficult to collect without tracking a bit of mud.

Chamacyparis nootkatensis (Nootka false cypress) is now Callitropsis nootkatensis....I saw at least one in the last PNBCA convention. Also for us in the PNW there is Pinus contorta contorta (shore pine) Anton Nijhuis has created many and provided many folks with them and lastly Thuja Plicata (Western red cedar) - Peter Wilson is working on one.

Graham,

Thanks for the input. I'll add the information into the master file at the next update!

As a note, there has been much discussed about Callitropsis nootkatensis and it's relationships with Chamaecyparis, cupressus, xanthocyparis etc.... here is a link that discusses the current state of botanical study http://www.conifers.org/cu/cup/index.htm. I have for the moment listed it as Callitropsis but that may change in the future.

Wow, impressive lists!

I have 3 ABIES BALSAMEA Balsam Fir Bonsai growing in the Eastern zone, Upstate New York.
The best of the 3 currently is the largest, trained as a Semi-Cascade style. It is coming along nicely and was displayed
at the North American Bonsai Symposium held in Rochester this past September.
The next best is a Cascade Style, close to Shohin Bonsai size. Its getting close to being good but not quite there yet.
It takes some coaxing to get them compact and in a small pot.
The third is a small tree which I am attempting to make something decent out of. This year I jinned the top of the tree and started over. Time will tell if this is impossible.
They do not like intense heat and love misting any time.

Wow! I get so excited when I see a new message here. :D

Can we see some pics of these trees? I don't think these firs will grow for me down here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge (even though my pastures were white with snow {mostly gone now} this morning) but I'd like to see them.

Marc,

Great addition to the list which I'll update. What's your US Growing zone? I would also like to see a pic of your trees as well. We have added a Gallery of pictures on the main website which has an album of reference images and I would emplore anyone with pictures of bonsai material on this list to send me a picture so I can add it to the reference image library! You can post the image here on this thread along with your authorization to put it into the gallery or send me the image along with your authorization to my personal E-mail (plantmanky@yahoo.com) and I'll add it.

Thanks again for your contribution!
