Trident maple forest defoliation

Postby MatsuBonsai » Jun 27, 2011 5:30 pm

This is the 2nd year for multiple defoliation for this trident forest. I didn't get any pictures of the 3 rounds last year, or the first round this year. In mid May I decided it was time for the 2nd defoliation this year. The first was a light defoliation and trim back in mid April. This round was a little more aggressive.

Pictures are before and after. Sorry for the poor background.

Yesterday was the final round, with nearly every leaf removed, except for the smallest and weakest areas.

John, that forest is looking really good. I like the arrangement, it developes great perspective. The defoliation is developing the ramification of the limbs very well. All it needs is time. Nice Job. I think I can speak for several people on the forum that we enjoy watching the progression of the trees, so keep the pictures coming over time.

Thanks. Hopefully we can get more members weighing in here and posting their own projects.

This one is the wife's, I'm just the caretaker. :)

She put the forest together during Rendezvous back in 2006, so the placement and arrangement is to her credit. I did convince her to repot it this Spring. First time since it was put together. The roots have pretty well fused to a single mat.
