Vaccinium virgatum

This 'Rabbiteye' blueberry was the victim of a wayward lawn tractor 4 years ago. When were were digging the hole for its replacement, I found the chopped off base and it appeared to be alive. The mower had chopped it artfully, so it went into a bonsai pot. (There are 8 other plants out there, and we have picked several gallons of blueberries this summer. I'm actually getting a little tired of blueberry cobbler. Just a little, though. Most will be frozen for cobbler in December.)

There is a LOT of work yet to do, but here is the little plant 4 years later.

Jim,

Now that's what you do with victim's of lawn mower accidents!!!!! I'll be interested in following yor progress on that little bugger. By the way, it's a Native of North America in the southern states and should be added to our ABS listing as I don't think it's currently on that list. I had never heard of that species and did a little cursory research on it and you might be intrested in knowing that some botanists are considering changing it's name (like they don't have anything else to do eh?). The folks up at the St. Louis research facility are calling it Cyanococcus virgatus but that name hasn't made it into the the USDA system yet and they still list it as vaccinium virgatum. Keep us upto date on your progress.
