Urban Yamadori Juniper

Well, the name is funny. This is a simple example that bonsai doesn't have to cost several thousand a tree to get something really nice. This was a tree collected from an abandoned building here in town. The Juniper was slowly dying because it was living in a planter build of brick and morter in front of the building. No care had been provided in four or five years. I contacted the owner of the building by finding them through the apprasial district in town. It wasn't too difficult since the owner couldn't have cared less. It's in a 27 gallon metal bucket. It was placed in Pea Gravel (also considered to be river sand) and has grown and stabilized there for 20 months. The time it has been in the pot is not as important as the health and rate of growth the tree is showing. This has been back budding everywhere and I got my courage up to take it on. I have a professional coming in a couple of months at which time I am going to define the live vein better, but I am feeling pretty good about it so far. Hope you like it.

Looks like an interesting project. Any idea what cultivar? I have also had success in contacting building owners to collect old neglected junipers from the landscape. The yard crews do a wonderful job bending, breaking, and scarring them.
